Click here for Directions to Ravenstonedale. The village is around 1 mile from The Green Cumbria and you can walk there in about 20 minutes via a very quick single-track tarmac road or using footpaths across farmers’ fields.
Ravensonedale is located within a Dark Sky Reserve with some of the darkest skies and lowest levels of light pollution in the country. On a clear night you could see as many as 2000 amazing stars. It is possible to glimpse the Milky Way, sparkling star clusters and even the elusive Northern Lights. Have a go with your very own stargazing kit which is provided in your cottage.
Look out for the local wildlife too, fell ponies coming down for shelter, the friendly and entertaining red squirrels and sheep…lots of sheep!
Interested in History? Look out for Ravenstonedale Tales – Volume 1 and Volume 2 copies of which are in the cottages and by local writer Val Fermer. Each book describes several fascinating family histories, each of which starts with an interesting discovery in Ravenstonedale but you are then taken far beyond a rural Cumbrian Parish to stories of wealth, High Court litigation and huge successes of the Victorian age.
The nearest small town is Kirkby Stephen which is around 6 miles away. In town, you will find everything you need to stock up for your perfect self-catering dog friendly holiday in our quiet corner of Cumbria.
